Alfreds Karklins
Weightlifter, born in 1925 in Latvia. He emigrated to England in 1947 and then in 1952 came to Canada. In 1957 he got 2nd place in middle weight class at the Ontario finals with a lift of 363kg which was also the winning lift. In 1958 he won the division at the Ontario finals which he won seven times in total. He represented Canada at the PanAm games in 1959 where he got 6th place. He was Canadian champ in the mid weight division in 1960 and he won the heavy weight class in 1963 and 1966. In spite of working, raising a family and training for the sport he graduated from York University with a BA degree in 1977.
